These traditional Zulu weddings and coming of age ceremonies take place in rural Zululand.We drive out into the Zululand hills in search of a ceremony that we have been invited to but don`t quite know how to get to!!This makes for a great adventure as we eventually check out other guests winding there way over the hills in a common direction.You can never be too early or late.This is Zulu time at it`s best.

	In Zululand, South Africa,the Sangoma are practitioners of folk medicine and counselling in traditional Zulu societies.Sangoma initiations take place regulary in the Eshowe area. The Sangoma philosophy is based on a belief in spirits They have equal representation between men and women. They may be consulted for issues of health, love, travel, or business. They are also often used to reveal information about a crime. The sangoma performs a first-world function similar to the counsellor. They are trained and graduate at a sangoma initiation, and paid, sometimes a lot. For a South African Sangoma there is a long student period, similar to many religions, with an emphasis on service. After a few years of training they are initiated in a weekend ceremony to which we are welcome.
