Things To Do
The village of Vík í Mýrdal has a population of around 300. The hotel is located in the spectacular surroundings of Vík í Mýrdal, famed for its varied birdlife. Just east of the village is one of Europe’s largest nesting colonies of the arctic tern, while Mt. Reynisfjall and Dyrhólaey (16km southwest of Vík) abound in seabirds such as the fulmar, puffin and various species of auk. A pleasant walking route is along by Mt. Reynisfjall down to the shore, to see Reynisdrangar rock pillars and enjoy the seashore.
>>> Dyrhólaey is a rock headland, reaching a height of 120 metres, projecting south into the sea; under the headland is a huge natural arch. Dyrhólaey offers splendid views of land and ocean. Many puffins breed on the headland, which is a protected natural site; it is closed to visitors during the nesting season in spring.
>>> Other places of interest include Mt. Reynisfjall (accessible by SUV or on foot), Reynisfjara, Pétursey and Hjörleifshöfði.
>>> The Mýrdalur district abounds in contrasts in nature. It is an ideal place for the visitor looking for a beautiful natural environment along with excellent service.
