Shanghai to Beijing - 9 days

"Starting in Shanghai, you will have the opportunity to see all it's wonderful sights before heading via a local water town to the former capital of Nanjing. Then head north to the birthplace of Confucius at Qufu, before the train to Beijing and all its historical sites. Day 1 Shanghai Welcome to Shanghai! This evening you will meet your Trip Leader and the rest of your travelling companions in the café area of the hostel. After a brief information session, you may want to join your group to explore the local bar and restaurant area. Your Trip leader will be sure to show you their favourites. Day 2 Guilin Today is free for you to visit some of the places you may have missed yesterday. Try the art district or the bohemian style Tai Kang Lu. In the afternoon we will hop on the overnight train to Guilin. Day 3 Traditional Water Town This morning we head out to a local canal-lined water village (not one that is teeming with tourist buses). We spend the evening here and have the chance to see and explore the water towns in a way that most don’t have the chance to experience. Day 4 Nanjing This morning you will travel to Nanjing, a cosmopolitan university town enclosed within Ming Dynasty city walls. This former capital of China is a great mix of both old and new. Day 5 Nanjing Today you are free to explore Nanjing at your own pace because this town is packed with historical sites. You can visit many of them as you stroll the forested parks of Zinjin Mountain on the Eastern fringe of the city or visit the unsettling exhibits in the Memorial Hall of the Nanjing massacre. Day 6 Qufu This morning we head to Qufu, the hometown of one of China's most well known scholars, Confucius. Wandering the streets you feel like you have stepped back in time, wander the streets and see how local villagers live. Day 7 Qufu This morning you are free to visit ‘San Kong’ (the three Confucius’) at your own pace, Confucius Temple, Confucius Mansion ad Confucius Forest or simply continue getting lost in the streets. This afternoon we board the train to our final destination of Beijing. Day 8 Beijing Today is free to explore the citadel at your own pace. You may like to visit the Forbidden City, check out some markets, visit Beijing's Art district or meander through Beijing's old hutongs. Day 9 Beijing Today you sadly say farewell to your new friends or you can continue the adventure on our ‘Beijing to Xian’ pass or maybe stay a few days and explore this ancient city on the ‘Beijing Express’ to experience more of the real China.

"Spend 4 days exploring the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai and its many sites, including a day and night in a nearby local water town to experience this unique area. Day 1 Welcome to Shanghai! This evening you will meet your Trip Leader and the rest of your travelling companions in the café area of the hostel. After a brief information session, you may want to join your group to explore the local bar and restaurant area. Your Trip leader will be sure to show you their favourites. Day 2 Today is free for you to visit some of the places you may have missed yesterday, try the art district or the bohemian style Tai Kang Lu. Some of your group will leave today for Guilin, but those remaining in Shanghai will visit some of the small lanes that once made up the old city of Shanghai, and stroll through areas that have grown into Shanghai’s bohemian centre. Day 3 This morning we head out to a local canal-lined water village (not one that is teeming with tourist buses). We spend the evening here and have the chance to see and explore the water towns in a way that most don’t have the chance to experience. Day 4 This morning you will be transferred to the station for your trip back to Shanghai.

Shanghai to Hong Kong - 9days

"After spending time in Shanghai, we travel south to take in Guilin, Yangshou, the Dragons Backbone Rice Terraces and the some of the stunning scenery of this region. We then travel onto Shenzen on the border before heading to the incredibly vibrant city of Hong Kong for our final stop. Day 1 Shanghai Welcome to Shanghai! This evening you will meet your Trip Leader and the rest of your travelling companions in the café area of the hostel. After a brief information session, you may want to join your group to explore the local bar and restaurant area. Your Trip leader will be sure to show you their favourites. Day 2 Shanghai Today is free for you to visit some of the places you may have missed yesterday. Try the art district or the bohemian style Tai Kang Lu. In the afternoon we will hop on the overnight train to Guilin. Day 3 Longshen In Guilin, we will visit our favourite hostel, where we will pick up some extra guests before moving continuing north to Longshen where we can stay in a local village nestled amongst the rice terraces that wind their way around the mountain side. Day 4 Longshen Get up early and enjoy sunrise over the Dragons Backbone Rice Terraces. This morning you will have the opportunity to enjoy a 5 hour trip through the Rice Terraces and stunning scenery of the Guangxi region, to the village of Pingan. After a short break we return to our small village for a well deserved rest. If there is time and the weather is fine, a swim in the river is definitely recommended. For those into relaxing, your day is free to explore the surrounding terraces at your own pace. Day 5 Longshen/Yangshuo Today we head to Yangshuo, known for the dramatic Karst Mountains that surround the village. This area is a Mecca for independent and adventure travellers. Although we arrive in the afternoon, much of Yangshuo does not wake up until early evening. Day 6 Yangshuo After two days of soaking up the stunning scenery, it’s time to get a little active. You can choose to go rock-climbing, learn to cook in a local farmhouse or simply laze the day away on a bamboo raft. . Your Trip Leader will tell you about all the options available. Day 7 Yangshuo Another full day in Yangshuo means a chance to hire a bicycle or motorbike and head out into the mountains. Visit the secret beach for a swim, raft down rapids or visit caves filled with mud baths. In the evening we hop on overnight bus to Shenzhen. Day 8 Hong Kong We arrive early morning into Shenzhen and head straight for Hong Kong on the high speed railway. After checking into your hostel you have the rest of the day to explore this sprawling metropolis, splurge with a little shopping, visit the harbour or take the old tram up to The Peak. Day 9 Hong Kong Today you sadly say farewell to your new friends. Although your tour ends today, let us know if you wish to extend your stay in Hong Kong and need to book additional accommodation or tours.
