The sea-drowned valleys of New Zealand's north island is one of the most beautiful coastal regions in the entire country. There are so many sounds, bays, islands and peninsulas to enjoy and many are very sparsely populated. This makes for some interesting exploration which you can undertake by sea kayak, day trips or walking and biking tracks (like the Abel Tasman).

Salmon, mussels and wine are some of the key produce of the area so make sure you endulge while you're here - a perfect place perhaps for Christmas dinner.
