About Stumble Inn Backpackers

The hostel is in two historic Cape Dutch Houses. Double rooms are spread around the hostel and all toilet facilities are shared. A pool at the quieter house offers welcome relief from the summer heat. Self catering kitchens are available and managers often do a braai (BBQ) in the garden for guests. The entertainment area has backround music during office hours and a pool table and bar, sat TV for all sports events and news PLUS an expresso machine for the best coffee in SA.

Things To Do

Stumble Inn Backpackers Lodge has been around since 1994, the original backpacker accommodation in the Western Cape wine lands near Cape Town. Its central location, helpful staff, dormitory, double and camping options make it the choice for travellers wanting to get to know the area. There are many ways to enjoy the wine lands from driving yourself, cycling, taking a tour to pub crawling the night away in this lively university town. Many restaurants are within walking distance and there's an abundance of entertainment from movies to diamond buying to curio shopping. There is horse riding, mountain biking, strawberry picking,  brandy tasting and awesome wine estates peppered with fresh fruit from farms in this incredibly fertile, mountainous region.

Nightlife is abundant with live music and theatre from rock to opera interspersed among the many venues. Eikestadnuus the local paper is the best place to check what`s on offer and when.

Stellenbosch is the ideal place to start you trip or end your trip off "The Garden Route". Its proximity to the airport makes it an easy 30min trip with no traffic worries. The famous Easy Rider Wine Tour makes discovering the scenic wine lands an effortless and highly enjoyable sensory experience. Our registered tour guides take you to four different estates over the Stellenbosch Fransschoek and Paarl area. A cheese tasting (except Sundays), cellar tour and restaurant lunch is included in the price. A package price is offered if you stay for two nights at Stumble Inn and do the Easy Rider wine tour.

How To get There

There is a train service from Cape Town daily that takes about an hour. The Backpacker Bus does shuttles 24 hours from Cape Town or the airport. Baz Bus stops for our free shuttle, and of course it's an easy drive in your hire car. Look out for overland tour companies that come through Stellenbosch as part of their trip.
