Where do you start…

Melbourne is the arts, events and cultural capital of Australia. We are renowned for great cheap food, good shopping and our friendly welcoming manner. Melbournian’s are also sporting fanatics – we even have a public holiday for a horse race!!

If it's beach time you’re after then St Kilda is the place to be, it's also home of the ‘Neighbours Trivia Night’. One great reason to come to Melbourne is to see Australia’s most infamous street – Ramsay Street – we can sort you out with a tour.

St Kilda/Melbourne has something to offer all year round. We start the year off watching some of the world’s greatest tennis players fighting for victory in the Australian Open. From there the roar of the F1 engines comes to town and the streets of St Kilda are pumping for what is undoubtedly the nation's premier annual international sporting event. Thrown in between these two major sporting events are the St Kilda Festival and Pride March – both huge street parties.

Melbourne then shows of its beautiful gardens and hosts the Melbourne International Flower show. Anyone lucky enough to be in Melbourne from April – September has the chance to go to an AFL footy game with the Grand Final in September. St Patrick’s Day is always a big one with our many Irish theme bars. If movies are more your thing the Melbourne International Film Festival screens in July and August. In November the entire nation stops to watch the Melbourne Cup – the biggest race in the Spring Racing Carnival.

HabitatHQ is located only a hop skip and jump from beaches, nightlife, cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping in Melbourne`s chic and alternative hotspot - St Kilda. With door step access to frequent trams running straight into Melbourne, ‘HabitatHQ' is a great base to discover Melbourne, St Kilda and beyond.

Staying in St Kilda gives you easy access to the Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island (home of the penguins) and tours depart everyday from our hostel.

How To get There

From Tullamarine Airport: * Frankston and Peninsular airport shuttle runs a service from the airport to our hostel from 06.00-20.30. * If you stay three nights or more call us first to arrange a voucher number to give to the shuttle company, prior to getting on the shuttle. * Skybus runs a 24 hour shuttle service from the airport to the CBD.

From Avalon Airport: *The Avalon Airport Bus will drop you off at our hostel and runs to meet every service coming into Avalon Airport.

From the CBD: Tram numbers 3 and 67 both run along Swanston Street in the heart of Melbourne city. Get off at Stop 34 and there we are located between Carlisle and Inkerman Streets. A taxi from the city to HabitatHQ should cost you around $15.

From Spencer Street Station (Southern Cross Station): Either take any tram or walk up – (it will take about 10 minutes) Bourke Street to Swanston Street and jump on the 3 or 67 tram.

Terms & Conditions

•All guests must provide a passport or photo driver’s license on arrival •A $10 key deposit is required for dorm accommodation •A credit card swipe or $100 cash security bond is required on arrival for all private rooms •Accommodation needs to be paid on arrival, not departure •Cancellations less than 24 hours and no shows will be charged for one night of accommodation per person •Minimum 2 night stay in dorms for High Season (1 Dec – 30 Apr) •Minimum 2 night stay in private rooms in Special Event Seasons Melbourne Cup, Australian Tennis Open, Grand Prix •Under 18's are not permitted to stay in the dorm rooms unless part of a school/sporting group, all under 18's must be accompanied by an adult in the private rooms •Bookings of 4 or more people are not guaranteed to be in the same room •Specials are not valid with any other offers •All bookings over 10 people are considered a Group Booking and must booked directly with the hostel.
