About 12-01 East Backpackers

We are a traditional hostel with the best location in Perth. 1201 East Backpackers is your start off in Australia. You will make friends easily, considering 1201 Backpackers your home from home. Just join our family of backpackers from all over the world. In our Games and Recreation room we have got a lot of dancing nights or movie nights to fulfil a culture atmosphere. Bring your instrument or juggle balls and have your performance in our backyard . It is the easy for you to come by car from the highway, by train with the Indian Pacific across the country side or from the Domestic Airport and International Airport. If you are here at 1201 East Backpackers you can walk down on Hay Street to the mall in a couple of minutes or you use the unique free bus connection. There are many bus lines like the Red Cat circle line. The Weather and the beaches are the winner Perth by the way is the sunniest city in Australia. With its pleasant climate in summer and mild days in winter is Perth the winner making your stay enjoyable. The ongoing breeze through gives Perth a healthy environment. Fabulous beaches and Swan River gives you the first impression what WA is like We offer clean, spacious dorms and bedrooms where our guests have enough space for themselves and their kit. A great selection of different bedding configuration for every taste and budget is available as well as a comfortable bed for that good sleep, regardless of the time of day. You can cook that special meal or just a sandwich in our well-equipped kitchen, each of our guests gets their personal plates, cups and cutlery so no one has to share. The dining room is large enough for a banquet of thirty and small enough for that intimate dinner for two. Games and Recreation room, located in the basement, is the social hub of the hostel where everyone knows your name. Guests chat, play pool, darts, drink, dance or watch TV There are two supermarkets, a post office, two bottle shops, hotels and bars, night clubs and many restaurants all nearby. The Swan River, the Western Australian cricket grounds are also just seconds away from our front door. When you eventually leave Perth your fondest memories of this town will include the fun, friends and the great times you had at 1201 East Backpackers. Our hostel consists of 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10-bed (single and mixed sex) dorms as well as doubles, triples, twins, and singles. All beds have linen, blankets and pillows

1201 East Backpackers is a traditional 60 bed backpackers offering easy going, friendly and uncomplicated accommodation. It’s a hostel brimming with personality and charm, catering for 18 year old+ travellers, students and the occasional worker in between assignments who  is looking for a different backpacking experience.

  *  The top level comprises of sleeping compartments including single rooms, twins, doubles and dorms.

  *  Level one has reception, guest services, travel desk, 18 computers with internet access and  the other sleeping compartments.

  *  The ground floor has the kitchen, the cave (rec room),  lounge,  laundry,  dinning room and a small courtyard with our bbq. 

1201 boasts different zones for your every mood including the top level which is great for reading, studying and quiet contemplation, while the cave is for dancing, playing pool and partying.     

A gentle 10 minute walk and you are in the hub of the shopping, nightlife and commercial business areas of Perth city or photographing kangaroos on Heirisson Island.

With our location you are never more than three minutes walk from public transport.

If you choose to drive it is 10 minutes to the Domestic Airport and a further 10 minutes to the International airport.

Things To Do

Perth is famous for its endless sunshine and great Mediterranean climate, great for taking advantage of our diverse attractions and lifestyle.

The Swan River foreshore is the play ground for the city with parks and gardens, walking and bike trails and lots of different water sports activities. There is  King’s Park with its treetop walk, famous gardens and breathtaking view’s of the city.

Or just five minutes walk from the hostel, on Heirisson Island, photograph kangaroos among the gum trees.

Try your luck at Burswood Casino, enjoy Northbridge for the night life, restaurants, café’s and pubs.

We love our sport. There is cricket, football, water skiing and fishing within a 10 minute stroll of 1201 East Backpackers.

Our location at 1201 offers a convenient pick-up and off point for tours including: The Pinnacles, Wave Rock and Margaret River just to name a few.

Our close proximity to the airport, rail and bus terminals are perfect for travellers looking for a central location to stay.

How To get There

Our Location:

1201 East Backpackers is located at 195 Hay Street, between Plain and Bennet Streets. We are directly across the road from the Comfort Hotel Perth City and next to the Eastside Café and Saville Hotel.

We offer a free pickup from the airports / train stations / bus ports for stays of four days of more (conditions apply).

For flights to the Perth  Airport a privately owned shuttle bus will bring you right to our front door. The prices are very competitive and the shuttle bus departs at  regular intervals.

Taxis are readily available and cost from 20 AUD (domestic airport).

For bus and train travellers the Red Cat (free bus) will take you to within a minute walk from the Hostel. If you get off at the Queen`s Gardens bus stop, cross the street and walk towards the Saville Hotel. We are located 10 metres before.
