Central City Backpackers is a rambling hostel opened in 1870 as The Imperial Hotel. It was a luxurious hotel that became a hospital twice, a teahouse and now a hostel for the past 12 years. In modern times we have a very clean, comfortable and safe feel. Our new inner-spring mattresses help the comfortable reputation! Our state-of-the-art fire detection/suppression and 24 hour emergency manager help the safe feel. We have a kitchen second to none, and a relaxing lounge and TV room. We have Austar, beer and wine at reception, guide books to loan, great advice and discounted tours. How To Get There

From the Airport … Ask the Airporter bus, or your taxi driver to you off. From the Transit Centre … Just 3 blocks along Collins Street Driving … From Davey Street, turn right up Harrington, then right again into Collins Street. Our front entrance is right beside Fullers Bookshop.
