About The Gecko`s Rest

Gecko’s Rest is located in the heart of Tropical Queensland, Mackay (City Center).

First & foremost Gecko’s Rest can always offer its guests a clean and safe environment with friendly and helpful staff. Mackay is a tropical paradise for all to enjoy with a great range of activities and attractions and Gecko’s Rest is right in the heart of it all. Located in the center of Mackay city makes us a great place to stay, handy to all amenities, ie. suppermarkets, movie theaters, Mall, bus station, tourist information center, river walks, pubs & night clubs, Sunday markets, and more. We also offer a FREE shuttle service (courtesy bus) for pick ups and drops offs (upon request) to and from the Airport, Bus station, and Marina.

90 percent of Gecko’s Rest Dorm and twin rooms have king single beds, which makes for a great sleep. All rooms have air-conditioning and their own lock-up cupboards. All linen, towels, are included into our overnight costs. Gecko’s Rest has a well appointed kitchen with all the comforts of home ie., 4 stove tops, 1 oven, 3 microwaves, 4 sinks, and a very large communal fridge for all of our guests to use. Our first floor has an extremely large decking area, a great place to relax and unwind.

How To get There

If arriving via bus (Greyhound, Premiere) the bus terminal is located on Macalister St, the front bus is pointing towards Victoria St, turn right into Victoria St, and walk straight down until you get to the only set of lights in Victoria St, (Pub on corner) - (Palace hotel) and turn left into our street (Sydney St) and we are four doors down.

If arriving by car from Peak Downs Highway, or Bruce Highway, keep going until you come to Nebo road, (both highways join up to Nebo Rd) turn right into Shakespeare St, then left into Sydney St.

Terms & Conditions

NO alcohol is to be consumed in Gecko’s Rest hostel (all alcohol is to be drunk out on the deck only).

We require a $20.00 key deposit upon check-in, this is refunded upon check-out.

NO sleeping bags are allowed upstairs (Please hand in at reception upon check-in).

All guests must have correct I.D (Passport, Drivers license) before they are checked in.
