Things To Do

The Alhambra, one of the most important monuments of Europe, is just a 2 minute bus ride away from us. It is best to reserve in advance over www.alhambratickets.com since it gets really busy and there is a dayly quota for visitors into the Palace area. You find our hostel in the middle of Granada’s most exciting quarter, the Albaizyn with its narrow streets, white-washed houses and its ancient spirit where you can wander around for hours finding small relicts from the past like Moorish bathhouses,Plaza Larga (morning veg market) mosques or converted churches and some stunning views from San Nicolas, Mirador de la Lona or San Cristobal overlooking the Alhambra and the city. Just 10 minutes walking from the Sacromonte one of the cradles of Flamenco and with its caves and the Sacromonte Abbey with catacombs. For the more Catholic part of the city, you should check out the Cathedral of Granada. Visit for free El Bañuelo (old arab baths) or enjoy the experience at the new ones "Hamman". Life concentrates around the main square, Plaza Nueva, where people have coffee in the morning and tapas during the night. Visit Calle Elvira where more great tapas bars, flamenco bars and night clubs are located or Navas Street (best locals tapas area)

How To get There

From the bus or train station take bus number 3 or 33 to Gran via 1 stop, which is also known as the Cathedral stop. As you are approaching this stop, the cathedral will be on your right. Take minibus nº 31 towards 'Albayzin'. Get off in Santa Isabel La Real monastery (estimated time: 10 minutes). Walk about 10 meters on your left you will see our street La Tiña. WALKING from the Cathedral: Cross Gran Vía Street and Exit the bus and walk back towards the intersection you just passed. You will be on a street called the Gran Via and at the end of the crossing will be a Caixa Bank. Cross Gran Via here and head into the street called Carcél Baja. Keep walking, you will pass Granada 10, the biggest disco of Granada. Then, you will come to a corner, but continue to walk up this street called Caldereria Nueva. You will be walking past many Arabic shops and restaurants. At the end of Caldereria Nueva there is a church and the Street name changes to 'Cuesta de San Gregorio'. Follow up this street until you reach an impressive orange moorish house called 'Carmen de la Media Luna'. Then turn to your left through 'Muladar de Doña Sancha' and the first one to your right is Calle Tiña (Makuto is in number 18). If coming with heavy wheel luggage we recommend to take minibus or a taxi since the streets are coblestone. From the airport: Take the airport bus to Granada and get off in Gran Vía con Reyes Católicos stop,(city center, estimated time: 25 min.),which is also known as the Cathedral stop. Take minibus nº 31 towards 'Albayzin'. Get off at Santa Isabel La Real monastery (estimated time: 10 minutes). Walk for about 10 meters and on your left you will see our street La Tiña. DURING MAY 2009 SOME STREETS WILL BE UNDER RESTORATION SO MINIBUS 31 WILL NOT REACH SANTA ISABEL. We recommend to come up walking from the Cathedral (10 minutes) but PLEASE: SEE MAP & DIRECTIONS BEFORE COMING!!! IN THE VERY OLD ALBAYZIN IS EASY TO GET LOST!!
