The spectacular Franz Josef and Fox glaciers are nestled amongst rainforest on the rugged West Coast of New Zealand where lakes, rivers, forests and beaches are part of an untamed wilderness. This awe inspiring area of South West New Zealand, where the glaciers cut through dramatic glacial valleys to flow into temperate rainforest almost to sea level, has been given World Heritage Park status.

Of all the accessible temperate glaciers in New Zealand, the Franz Josef Glacier is easily the steepest and fastest moving, providing visitors with a spectacular and unique icefall of crevasses, pinnacles, ice caves and canyons, combined with an ecosystem found nowhere else in the world.

Experience the beauty of this special part of New Zealand in any number of ways, regardless of your fitness level or budget. You can climb the face of the glacier, journey deep into the towering rainforests, explore blue ice caves, or take a guided walk or heli-hike on the Fox or Franz Josef glaciers to explore the spectacular ice formations.
