About Elephant Backpacker

Elephant Backpacker is located in the heart of Melbourne's laneways, cafes and entertainment precinct - right opposite Flinders Station. You can't get close to Central Melbourne. We offer two styles of accommodation - First is our existing cheap but cheerful rooms. The second is our newly opened 3rd floor incorparating deluxe rooms with their own ensuite.

If you want to be right in the centre of all the action, Elephant is where you should be! Located opposite Flinders St Station, 100 metres from Federation Square you can't get more central. We have recently renovated our 3rd floor and offer 18 deluxe suites. We have retained our existing rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor for the more budget conscious. Our hostel is staffed 24/7 and is safe, clean and friendly.

Everything! Shop, eat, wonder at the museums or catch the FREE tram around the city...all this and much much more and all at your doorstep when you stay at Elephant Backpackers!

Opposite Flinders Station, down from Federation Square. Next to Degraves Street.

Terms & Conditions

All guests must be registered with the Elephant’s Reception including any visitors. Guests and invitees of guests are expected to behave in a manner that is conducive to the safety, comfort and convenience of other guests within the property.

Smoking is not permitted in any part of the premises. Smokers must not block any entrance or exit or permit their smoke to waft into the building. No flammable liquids, explosive materials or combustible substances are permitted anywhere in the property. This includes camp stove gas refills and cigarette lighter fluid. The building is fitted with sensitive smoke detectors. No naked flame, smouldering matter or smoking substance of any type is permitted in the building including but not limited to candles, incense or lit cigarettes. Cooking is not permitted in any area other than communal kitchen. Electric bar heaters, radiators and fan heaters are not permitted.

No animals or pets are allowed anywhere within the premise of the Elephant.

All rooms and dorms are vacuumed daily from 9.00am. Rubbish from floors and bins are removed daily. Guests must remove their rubbish before departure and place it in rubbish bins. Failure to do so will result in loss of $10.00 taken from the Security Bond refunded at checkout.

Sleeping bags are not permitted to be used in the premise due to health and hygiene reasons. Only hostel-provided bedding is acceptable.

Vouchers presented to the Elephant must be forfeited upon check-in. Only original voucher documents will be recognised, copies are not acceptable.
