Things To Do
No trip is complete without an overnight camel bivouac where you sleep in a Berber tent after riding your camel two hours to an oasis. Campfire dinner under the stars is a quiet, unique experience to remember.
Also 4 x 4 or quads can be arranged to travel around the dunes. Snowboarding and skiing in the dunes. Black Gnawi Tribe music at a nearby village is different than Marrakech as you are in their homes and they offer mint tea for you to sip as you watch and listen to their music. Visit and shop at local Berber cooperative where you can learn about the Berber symbols in the carpets and jewellery. Many are made locally so remember your purchases help the local folks. Have lunch with Berbers in their home and visit the families.
Rissani has three local markets where nomads come to shop. It was called Sijilmass - as it was a mustering point for the camel caravan trade years ago. Burros and livestock auctions are held and sometimes a real antique can be found. Merzouga with its famous lake and flamingos and Hassi Lybaid are the two local villages to explore on foot. Fossils are available to buy throughout the area - including trilobites and ammonites and you can look for them in certain areas yourself.
How To get There
Travel through Erfoud to Rissani. When you come to a "T" intersection in Rissani village, turn left and follow the asphalt road towards Merzouga. About four km before Merzouga village, you see a sign for Village Hassi Labaid pointing left. Right after that you see the sign for Haven La Chance Desert Hotel pointing left. Follow that to the sand dunes and our hotel is right there. BEWARE OF FALSE GUIDES WANTING TO STEER YOU ELSEWHERE!!
Taxis are available from Rissani. We also can arrange transport from other cities to the desert. Contact us directly for that arrangement well in advance at info@bluemenofmorocco.com
