2010 WAMi Festival
After shifting the WAMis from February to May, a massive 80,000 people attended the WAMi Festival showcases and programs in 2009. The 2010 WAMi Festival is set to be just as big with the WAMi Awards, Northbridge Saturday Spectacular, WAMi Music Business Conference and WAMi Regional Tours all set to return, alongside the debut of fresh events in new spaces and venues such as the Northbridge Piazza and small bars across the Metro area.
WAM are excited to announce submissions are open for original Western Australian artists to showcase during the 2010 WAMi Festival. By submitting your act for the 2010 WAMi’s, you have the opportunity to perform at these WAMi events and a chance for your act to feature on the Kiss My WAMi CD/DVD Compilation.

2012 Centenary Expedition
On 12 March 2012 at 10am the Centenary Expedition of 50 plus one or two cylinder veteran motorcycles and automobiles will depart from the Old General Post Office Perth on a 4,100 kilometre run to Sydney. The expedition will take 20 days with two rest days. The expedition will celebrate Ferguson’s and Britle’s first crossing of an Australian motor vehicle in 1912, which they undertook in a 1910 single cylinder 10 horsepower brush taking 28 days with virtually no roads, driving from dawn to dusk.
It will be a once in a lifetime experience for each Australian who see’s the 2012 expedition at the start at Perth, en route and at the finish at the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) Sydney.

AWESOME Arts Festival
The Awesome Festival is an annual event known as the Perth's International Arts Festival for young people, providing young West Australians with access to the world's best contemporary art experiences.
The festival showcases the latest and greatest new media, film, animation, contemporary dance, sculpture, installation, street art and theatre throughout various locations around the Perth City and Perth's Cultural Centre in Northbridge.
This interactive and participative style festival provides excitement and entertainment for the youth in Western Australia in the arts.
Creative kids from as far away as the Kimberley, Pilbara, Mid West, Gascoyne and Goldfields participate in the festival through story telling in the creation of a books giving the audience a taste of living in regional and remote Western Australia.
Beethoven's Emperor

Beethoven's World
Beethoven, one of the greatest composers to have ever lived, was completely deaf by the time he was 30, yet the music continued to swirl inside his head. Come with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and enter the amazing world of Beethoven, a world of silence that produced famous works like Symphony No. 5 and Für Elise.

Beethovens Ninth
Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 is one of the greatest symphonic works ever written. Concluding with the passionate Ode to Joy, this work speaks its message of freedom and love across the ages. Liza Lim’s new work is inspired by the pearl shell carvings of the Kimberley; a unique piece from our time and our place.

Amongst a pile of out-of-tune television sets, walls converge and a body is caught between hope and fear. Breakings questions our relationship with the media and how it influences our perception of the world.
Hailed by the West Australian as 'one of Perth's most promising emerging choreographers', Aimee Smith is known for her cutting edge political work.
Breakings is an intense intersection between body, sound, screen and movement.

Bugs Bunny at the Symphony is a spectacular fusion of classic Warner Bros. cartoons projected on the big screen, accompanied by their exciting original Carl Stalling scores played live by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
Experience this entertaining performance with some of the world’s most popular Looney Tunes characters - Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Porky Pig and of course the star of the show - Bugs Bunny. Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series Test Match - Australia v England
The 2010 Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series Test Match will see the Qantas Wallabies match up against some of the world’s best rugby nations over six matches in Australia.
Australia will take on England who carries the hopes and dreams of the nation whenever they play, and with a strong forward pack and lightening pace in attack, they will again prove to be difficult opponents for the Qantas Wallabies in Perth.
With well priced tickets, both local and visiting rugby fans have a great opportunity to see a slate of the game’s biggest international stars in one of the year’s showpiece matches in Western Australia.

Butchers Picnic
The Butcher’s Picnic is a day to celebrate the skilled, saucy talking masters of meat and craftsmen of cuts, butchers.
Heaps of activities for all the family with sausage making demonstrations and blind-tasting competitions.
Watch the battles as apprentice butcher’s race the clock to bone a leg of lamb and home-chefs have at it in a hogget cook-off.
This year sees butchers from around the state vie for the Beef Burger Crown and some of Western Australia’s best produce there for the tasting. It all happens in Northbridge Piazza on Sunday the 28th of March.

City of Perth Australia Day Skyworks
250,000 people line the foreshore of the Swan River for our country's largest annual community celebration on Australia Day.
The day will begin with the Lord Mayor welcoming our newest citizens and acknowledging the achievements of our community leaders at the City of Perth Citizenship and Australia Day Awards Ceremony.
Throughout the day family entertainment will be spread across Langley Park, Supreme Court Gardens, Esplanade Reserve, Sir James Mitchell Park, Barrack Square and on Perth Water.
On 26 January 2011 the hardest decision for families to make is how to fit everything in.
The day culminates with the spectacular 30 minute Skyworks pyrotechnic display over Perth water.

Eat Drink Perth
The City of Perth’s month long annual celebration of city restaurants, cafes, bars and food specialty stores has a new name… Eat Drink Perth. Formerly City Food and Wine Month, Eat Drink Perth will be launched on 26 February with the popular event dinner on the dock in Claisebrook Cove.
This year’s program will feature over 100 free and ticketed events for food enthusiasts including outdoor events, cooking classes, wine tastings and more.
Taking advantage of our evolving urban landscape, Eat Drink Perth events will be staged in restaurants, bars, laneways, riverfronts and the new Northbridge Piazza.
Along with the new name comes the emphasis on exploring the city’s intricate spaces.

Emanuel Ensemble's Mothers Day Concert - Viva Vivaldi!
Emanuel Ensemble presents their Mothers Day concert Viva Vivaldi! Celebrate Mothers Day with one of the most loved composers, Antonia Vivaldi known as the ‘Red Priest of Venice’.
Featuring four of Vivaldi’s exciting chamber concertos for woodwind and strings, complemented by JS Bach’s sinfonia from Cantata MWV 209, and a 350th anniversary tribute to Alessandro Scarlatti.
The concert features some amazing artists including Emily Gunson (flute), violin virtuoso Daniel Kossov and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra principals Joel Marangella (oboe) and Jane Kircher (bassoon) with Pascale Whiting (violin), Tzvi Friedl (viola), Sophie Walker (cello) and John Hardy (harpsichord).
Enigma Variations
Elgar’s expansive composition, dedicated to “my friends pictured within”, is renowned for both the music itself and the enigmas surrounding it. Barber’s poignant Adagio captures more than words can express - this is music of the utmost beauty.

Festival of Christmas
This year the City of Perth will be casting magic over Western Australia families with the Festival of Christmas.
The 2010 Festival of Christmas will attract tens of thousands of visitors into the city to experience the joy of the festive season.
A range of events will take place in the city over the next two months including roving carollers, musical performances and guest appearances by Santa in surprise locations throughout the city; you might even bump into Santa on the train.
As with previous years the City of Perth is pleased to continue its association with community groups to present a number of events. Highlights include the popular Christmas Pageant, the Carols by Candlelight and the East Perth Twilight Picnic in the Park. This year the City of Perth will be casting magic over Western Australia families with the Festival of Christmas.
HBF Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma
The HBF Freeway Bike Hike for Asthma is Western Australia's largest single day cycling event and the third largest cycling event in Australia with more than 8,000 participants in 2009.
The event caters for beginners through to elite cyclists and includes three options to choose from; the 60 kilometre hike from Kwinana Train Station, the 30 kilometre ride through the tunnel from Belmont Park Racecourse, or 10 kilometre City of Joondalup Family Ride from Greenwood Train Station with all three rides finishing in the City of Joondalup where there will be plenty of food, drink, music, prizes, entertainment, and much more.
Participants cycle on the southbound lanes of the Kwinana and Mitchell Freeways free from vehicles. The Graham Farmer Tunnel is open to cyclists as part of the 30 kilometre event starting from Belmont Park Racecourse, still a novelty to enjoy.
HBF Run for a Reason
The HBF Run for a Reason, presented by The West Australian, is a new event where you can walk, run, jog or stroll your way to the finish line, while raising money for six leading West Australian charities.
Held on Sunday 23 May, you can choose between the Act-Belong-Commit 14 kilometre course incorporating three freeways and a notable passage through the Northbridge Tunnel, or the shorter Act-Belong-Commit 4.5 kilometre course winding around Gloucester Park through East Perth. Both events start and finish at the iconic WACA ground.
Once you have crossed the finish line, you will be able to enjoy a complimentary drink, piece of fruit and a massage in the participants’ recovery area. You can then sit back and enjoy the live entertainment while you enjoy something healthy to eat and drink from one of our vendors.

Heritage Perth Heritage Days celebrate Perth’s history going back many thousands of years.

HIA Spring Home Show
The HIA Spring Home Show appeals to anyone looking to build a new home, add an extension, renovate, re-decorate, save the planet or just save money. A spectacular added attraction is the Perth Pool and Spa Expo. Taking up almost one entire pavilion, it has everything for anyone looking to make a splash this summer, with displays on all the latest in outdoor pools, spas and everything that goes with them.

Hilarys Triathlon
Hillarys Triathlon two is the fifth and final race of the Honda North Trievents Triathlon series. Held in the scenic Whitfords Nodes Park, the location makes for a great spectator area with its shady areas and children’s play ground.
The swim is in calm and sheltered waters making it great for beginners and fast for the elite athletes.
The ride course heads north along the relatively flat and open roads, this makes for very quick and exciting riding which can be quite challenging for competitors.
The run course follows the beach path north along the beach.
This event is set to be full of action as competitors battle it out for the series title.
Hills Heartbeat Festival
The Hills Heartbeat Festival is a celebration of the hills lifestyle. Hosted by Armadale Christian College, the festival includes other venues in the area with galleries, winery, pioneer village and organic growers.
Follow the Heartbeat from Armadale in your car or catch the free shuttle bus from Armadale railway station.
There will be two stages of entertainment, over 250 pieces of art, lots of craft stalls selling genuine home made goods, a silent auction and much more.
You can even abseil from the 10 metre level of the highest purpose built tower in the region. Have fun at the side show, have your face painted or join in the free children's activities.
On both mornings you can enjoy Pancakes in the Park with a gold coin donation, enjoy a discovery walk in Bungendore Park and view the reptile display.
Honda North TriEvents Triathlon Series
The 2009-10 TriEvents Honda North Triathlon Series is on again, Western Australia's leading Triathlon Series and home to the Pure Blonde Pursuit Series and TriEvents Enticer Series. The 2009-10 season sees an exciting step forward with Honda North joining as naming rights sponsor of the series, bringing with them some great opportunities and improvements from the 2008-09 series.
The 2009-10 series will once again feature five races in the Perth Metropolitan area, taking in some fantastic venues north and south of the river, including the exciting return of the City of Perth Triathlon to the series.
Jean-Yves Thibaudet Plays Grieg
Jean-Yves Thibaudet returns to Perth to perform one of the most dramatic piano concertos ever written. While writing his iconic fifth symphony, Sibelius was inspired by cranes flying overheard - 30 years later he saw them again only days before his death.

Kings Park Festival
The annual Kings Park Festival has blossomed into a month long celebration that includes an intensive program of events throughout wildflower September. After his triumphant debut with West Australian Symphony Orchestra in 2008, Kristjan Järvi is back to perform Berlioz’ magical Symphonie Fantastique, a work describing the young composer’s infatuation with a great actress. In the company of Britten and Tchaikovsky, Paul Daniel opens this season with some outstanding music performed by Western Australian Symphony Orchestra’s (WASO’s) own David Evans and exciting United Kingdom tenor Allan Clayton. Shostakovich’s mighty opera Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk contains some of the most exciting orchestral writing of the last 100 years.

Lazarev Conducts Tchaikovsky

Over three days in mid-March All Saints’ College will host presentations from authors and performers at almost 150 sessions including popular children’s writers Duncan Ball, Sally Morgan and her daughter Ambelin Kwaymullina, Craig Silvey and Hazel Edwards, who will be celebrating the 13th anniversary of her beloved book, “There's A Hippopotamus On Our Roof Eating Cake”. High-profile sporting personalities such as Troy Cook and Western Force and Wallabies player James O’Connor will form part of a panel focussing on ethics in sport.

McCubbin: Last Impressions 1907-17
Experience the exhibition McCubbin: Last Impressions 1907-17 at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, a highlight of Perth’s cultural calendar this summer. Frederick McCubbin is one of the foremost Australian Impressionists who continued to experiment artistically throughout his career, producing wonderful colour and light-filled paintings. Two works from the State Art Collection, The Old Garden and Self portrait, are featured in the exhibition.

National Archeology Week
Have you ever wondered what archaeologists do, particularly in Western Australia? Many people when they think of archaeology think of the Pyramids or Indiana Jones. Few are aware of the fascinating archaeology that can be found in their own town or suburb with amazing history located right under their feet.
National Archaeology Week aims to change that with a series of mainly free events, tours and displays highlighting the archaeological heritage of Australia. In the vast spaces of Western Australia a month long program centred on Archaeology Week is organised every year.

National Tree Day
This year’s National Tree Day will take place around the country on Sunday 1 August. Celebrating its 15th year, Planet Ark is calling on keen gardeners to coordinate tree-planting sites or provide ongoing care to the many thousands of existing native trees and shrubs which have been planted as part of National Tree Day.
Get your local school, sporting or church group together and ask your local council if they can provide you with some land to care for and seedlings to plant.
By taking part, you’ll have the opportunity to share your expertise and teach future generations how to care for and preserve our local native environment.

New Year's Eve in Northbridge
Get ready to farewell 2010 with a party as the City of Perth delivers a night of free, family friendly entertainment across Northbridge.
The event includes three stages of entertainment and roving performances throughout Northbridge.
Stages on James Street and in the Northbridge Piazza will feature high energy percussion performances, dazzling circus and aerial routines, burlesque dancers, 60s swing rock and comedy routines.
Families are encouraged to enjoy a meal in one of Northbridge's many restaurants before heading out to enjoy the family focused celebrations.

One Movement for Music Perth
One Movement For Music Perth is the essential tastemaker and music industry event in the southern hemisphere.
In 2009, it came, it conquered. One Movement For Music descended on the Australian seaside city of Perth in October and proved itself as one of the most important music industry conference and showcase events in the southern hemisphere. The response from artists, delegates and speakers was unanimous - One Movement is now firmly fixed in their annual calendar.

Something’s always happening in Perth’s Eastern Region and Autumn is really special!

The festival combines the events of the six councils of the Eastern Metropolitan Region – Bayswater, Bassendean, Belmont, Swan, Mundaring and Kalamunda and allows people to explore and enjoy the many attractions on offer over a six week period.

Quit Targa West
QUIT Targa West is Western Australia’s only tarmac rally, running over a four day period. In 2010 there will be 100 Classic and Modern cars competing in this exciting and prestigious event which is now classed as one of the premier events of its type in the country.
Highlights of the rally are the Prologue at Perth Motorplex on Thursday, the Official Start in Forrest Place Friday morning and then the stages around the town of Kalamunda. Friday evening is the popular Show-n-Shine in Northbridge. Over the weekend spectators can catch the action in the scenic Chittering and Toodyay regions.

Ravel's Bolero
TaikOz visits Perth again to perform Mono-Prism, an electrifying display of ancient drumming and physical power in a program created around dance. The West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) performs Ravel’s masterpiece Bolero, and premieres a brand new work by Australia’s master composer Ross Edwards that has been specially written for this concert.

Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ
The 2010 Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ will be held on Sunday 29th August 2010 and will incorporate six events taking participants on a journey from the City of Perth to City Beach, one of Australia’s most spectacular beaches. Over 40,000 participants are expected to take part across all events making the Carnival the second largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere and the largest community sporting event in Western Australia.

Red Bull Air Race
The Red Bull Air Race World Championship features the world's best race pilots in a motor sports competition that combines speed, precision and skills. Rockingham Musselfest
The 11th annual Rockingham Musselfest presented by Fremantle Ports is on again at the Rockingham Foreshore. The Rockingham Musselfest is a free community festival, focusing on the wealth of the Rockingham region, the local industry, local talent, art and craft, food and wine.
Additionally the 2010 festival marks the launch of an exciting new entertainment program, with a large number of free rides, some never before seen in Western Australia. Prokofiev tells the story of star-crossed lovers in music that stirs the passions. Herrmann’s music for Hitchcock’s classic horror film Psycho tells a very different story but with equally stirring music. Hailed as one of the most remarkable violinists of his generation, Renaud Capuçon brings Korngold’s sumptuous Violin Concerto to life.

Santos Great Bike Ride
The Santos Great Bike Ride is a charity ride around the scenic Swan River. The ride raises money for three charities the St John of God Foundation, Hope for Children and the Heart Foundation.
The ride begins at Langley Park and follows the river to Fremantle then loops back up to the freeway and along the South Perth foreshore and finishes back at Langley Park.
The course takes in some fantastic views across the river towards Perth and surrounding areas.
The ride caters for people of all ability with three distances, there is a 106 kilometre ride for the serious bike enthusiast, a 53 kilometre loop and a 10 kilometre family ride.
The ride is a great opportunity to experience some of Perth’s best cycle routs and your chance to ride along the Kwinana Freeway.
Sculpture by the Sea
Sculpture by the Sea returns to Cottesloe Beach for the sixth annual exhibition from 4 to 21 March 2010.
Over 60 local, interstate and international artists will transform Perth's most popular beach into a stunning sculpture park overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Hugely popular, this free to the public exhibition attracts approximately 100,000 visitors of all ages.
It is a big winner with the kids, for whom the sculptures become a giant fantasy land, among which they have a ball.
With something for everyone, gorgeous sunsets and a great ambience, this year's show is one of Perth’s not to be missed events.
Scultpures by the Swan
Experience the specially created sculptures installed beside the Swan River. Come and see a large 350 kilogram egg with a small window revealing a chicken playing a violin, a cup of coffee sitting on a ledge and a single light globe that hangs from the ceiling.
There will be sculptures hanging from trees, mussels on land, a colony of ants carrying coloured glass up a tree and delicate cocoons made from recycled plastic drink bottles. Enjoy a riverside picnic with family and friends, take a self-guided walk through the exhibition or delight in the picturesque surroundings at Sandy Beach Reserve.
Simone Young Counducts
Simone Young returns to the West Australian Symphony Orchestra with brilliant American pianist Garrick Ohlsson in a program of music full of beauty and wonder. Elgar’s Enigma Variations contains mysterious dedications and secrets, the true meaning of which we can only guess.

Stations of the cross exhibition
The Uniting Church in the city is presenting a unique art exhibition for all Perth visitors to enjoy. The event will be held in Wesley Uniting Church, one of the oldest and most iconic churches in our city and is inspired by the story of the Passion and the final days in the life of Jesus. 15 visual artists representing some of Western Australia’s finest creative talent have been invited to contribute their own interpretation of one Station of the Cross collectively providing a fresh contemporary take on the universal themes that lie at the heart of Easter.

The Revelation Perth Film Festival
Australia’s most unique film event, the Revelation Perth International Film Festival, features over 100 signature works that explore style, content and form over ten days in July.

The Sapphires from Black Swan State Theatre Company
The Sapphires by Tony Briggs is a hit musical that tells the true story of the McCrae sisters, four gorgeous singers from New South Wales who dream of fame and fortune. As their careers take off, they find themselves far from the glitz and glamour, in the war zone of Vietnam entertaining the troops. This feel-good production is full of the Motown classics that defined a generation, like Higher and Higher and Respect. Starring Christine Anu and Casey Donovan.

The Swimming Club from Black Swan State Theatre Company
Six young people from around the world, including two University of Western Australia students, spend one glorious summer together on a Greek island in 1983.
They are beautiful, adventurous, idealistic and believe that the world is theirs for the taking. Fast-forward to 2009: These footloose and fancy-free types have turned into successful and driven people who are juggling careers, families and mortgages and are grappling with middle age.
Each in their own way, they struggle with dreams, dilemmas, feelings and regrets. Will a reunion on their magical Greek island bring them together, or tear them apart? This new play by Hannie Rayson is for baby boomers and all those who love them, as it delves into this special generation with humour, warmth and sympathy.
Turning on the Christmas Lights
On Friday 12 November 2010 Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi will join 3,000 people in Forrest Place for the annual ‘Turning on the Christmas Lights’. This popular annual celebration will officially open the City of Perth’s Festival of Christmas.
Families will be entertained with a spectacular theatrical show that will conclude with the Lord Mayor ‘throwing the switch’ to light up the City’s 100,000 Christmas decorations.
A highlight of the decorations will be the spectacular 13 metre high Christmas Tree in Forrest Place which will be illuminated with over 2,000 individual lights.
As always, Perth’s most beautiful buildings and walkways will be adorned with festive decorations.
Verbitsky Conducts Dvorak
West Australian Symphony Orchestra’s esteemed Conductor Laureate, Vladimir Verbitsky takes charge of the Orchestra in a concert filled with Bohemian rhythms and colourful melodies, taking you on an unforgettable musical journey through Dvorák’s Slavic homeland.
Performers: Vladimir Verbitsky (conductor). Repertoire: Wagner Lohengrin Prelude to Act I, Wagner Lohengrin Prelude to Act III and Dvorak Slavonic Dances.
Wesfarmers Arts free Pre-Concert Talks will take place on the stage of the Perth Concert Hall at 9:40am prior to each Morning Concert.

Western Australian Cricket Association
The Western Australian Cricket Association hosts a variety of Interstate and International cricket events in the Western Australian capital city, Perth.
This is a great chance to show the support our beloved cricket team needs and a great opportunity to see the sights of the WACA Stadium in East Perth.
Some of the cricket events featured at the WACA is the Pura Cup, One Day Domestic, Interstate and International Twenty 20, Test Match and One Day International.
The Australian cricket team comes to Perth three times in the 2009 to 2010 seasons to play New Zealand, India and Sri Lanka.
