Fraser Coast Cultural Festival
The Fraser Coast Cultural Festival starts on Saturday, 24 March with a Gala Performance in the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough. On Sunday 25 March the Festival in the Park will be held in Scarness, Hervey Bay. This will start with a Parade of Nations, followed by performances on several stages by Cultural groups representing countries from around the world.
Hervey Bay Gem and Jewellery Show
Held over two days, the Annual Hervey Bay Gem and Jewellery Show is one of the premier events of the year for the Fraser Coast.
The Gem Show has been part of the Fraser Coast events calendar for over 45 years and attracts hundreds of intra and interstate visitors who are drawn to the event for the vast range of gems including sapphire, tourmalines, emeralds, garnets, opals and pearls; the exciting displays of gemstones and jewellery and the many activities which take place over the weekend.
There are demonstrations of faceting and other educational displays, raffles with excellent prizes, various food stalls and a fun atmosphere.
Hervey Bay Triathlon and Multisports Festival
The annual Hervey Bay Triathlon is open to, and appeals to, all levels of athletic ability with 26 individual and six team categories - while the event boasts over AUD25,000 in prizes it still provides a friendly and enjoyable multisports experiance for competitors from first-timer's to Olympians.
The course for the triathlon features a 1.5 kilometre swim in the pristine waters of Hervey Bay, followed by two loops of a scenic 20 kilometre beachside cycle course and concluding with a flat and shady 10 kilometre run along the foreshore bikepath.
Supporting events include the 3.4 kilometre Pier to Pub Swim Ocean Swim and a MultiSports expo.
Koala Markets
The Koala Markets, at Hervey Bay, offer an opportunity to buy and sell a wide range of arts and crafts, produce and bric-a-brac from over 230 stalls.
Held on the second, fourth and fifth Sunday's of each month, the markets are open from 6.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon. Bring the family along to find something for everyone!
May in the Wide Bay
May in the Wide Bay is a Hot Rod and Custom Car event which includes cruises, entertainment, car shows, observation runs, public viewing and driving skills tests. Based at the Happy Wanderer Holiday Park on Truro Street, Hervey Bay the cars will leave for various appearances round the Hervey Bay and Howard areas.
Nikenbah Markets
Nikenbah Markets are held on the first and third Sundays of each month, raising much needed funds for the Hervey Bay Animal Refuge - items for sale at these very popular Markets include arts and crafts, fresh produce, trash and treasure, cakes and jams and much more.
The markets are open from 6.00 a.m. for the early bargain hunters and run until midday, offering visitors from near and far, a wide range of gift opportunities for family and friends at home. A variety of food and drinks are available to eat while you wander around the Markets and enjoy the entertainment.
Queensland Junior State Cup - Touch Football
Queensland Junior State Cup - Touch Football teams from around South East Queensland compete in a three day carnival run by Queensland Touch Association and hosted by Hervey Bay Touch Association. Age Divisions include Under10, Under12, Under14, Under16 and Under18 with both boys and girls teams. It's great to see the skill levels grow through the age groups culminating with the ability and agility of the U18's. Team nominations for the 2011 carnival were 160 and, because of the success of the carnival this year, they are expecting team nominations to increase for 2012 carnival. This is definitely an event for players, parents and spectators to come to their region, compete at the carnival and then enjoy the great climate and hospitality Hervey Bay has to offer.
Villa Cavour Cooking Classes
Rocco, gourmet chef, will conduct Villa Cavour Cooking Classes for every level, from beginners to experts, in the art of cooking.
Lessons will include the most popular regional, traditional Italian recipes. You can start with the basics, like pastas and sauces, or ask for something special that you'd like to learn to cook.
After the class, the students will enjoy dinner and wine degustation. All the wines are imported directly from Piemonte and selected to accompany the different recipes.
