*** Latest event details are yet to be confirmed *** In 2012 Surfest will celebrate its 27th year and continue its status as Australia's largest festival of surfing with over 700 surfers contesting 10 events over 12 days of red-hot competition. Some of the world's best professional surfers will return to Newcastle to battle it out for the prestigious Mark Richards Trophy in the Burton Toyota Pro, and join the honour roll of past champions including Kelly Slater, Tom Curren, Mick Fanning and Tom Carroll. A six-star Women's ASP World Tour Star Event and an internationally rated Pro Junior Event will also be contested over the 12 days of competition. Surfest will again run at the fabled right-handers that peel down the rock and sand bottom off Merewether Beach, Newcastle. Image of Mark Richards and trophy provided by Richard Bartlett. Newcastle Council, event organisers and the NSW Government have worked together to provide free event loop buses over the weekend of March 16-18. People are encouraged to leave their cars at home and take advantage of the many public transport options available to access multiple events safely. - The 555 CBD Shuttle will operate from Newcastle Station to the Newcastle Showground on Friday, Saturday and Sunday - The 999 Event bus will transport spectators from Newcastle Station to Surfest at Merewether Beach on Saturday and Sunday - A 'Park and Ride' option will be set up at Lambton Park with a free bus (the 777) to Hunter Stadium and return, this will be in operation on Friday night for the Rugby League and Saturday.
