Zambia is often referred to as the 'real Africa'.
This is because it is still relatively untouched by hordes of tourists,
but it certainly has
a lot to offer! Zambia has some of the finest scenery in Africa, plenty of
wildlife, friendly people, and thrills galore for the adrenaline junkie.
Perhaps the greatest attraction is Victoria Falls in the south which
Zambia shares with Zimbabwe. Zambia is the source of both the great
Zambezi and Zaire Rivers.
Zambia sits on a plateau which slopes to the south and is bordered by
Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Angola, Zaire, Botswana, and
Namibia. It is for this reason that Zambia can make a good base for
travellers. The border crossing from Zimbabwe is easy, and the views of
Vic Falls are amazing.
There are three seasons in Zambia: rainy and warm from December through
to April; cool and dry from May to August; hot and dry from September
through October. Although there are approximately 35 different tribes in
Zambia, English is the official language and it is widely spoken across
the country.
Livingstone is a town located only seven kilometres from the Zambian
side of Victoria Falls. Livingstone is a very friendly place and a great
spot to organise all your adrenaline activities such as white-water
rafting and bungy jumping. If that's not quite your speed, check out the
museums or the nearby Maramba Cultural Centre. A game drive to
Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is also well worth it - ask your hostel for
all details on activities in and around Livingstone. |
