Western Cape - Destination Western Cape

Western Cape is famous for it's majestic mountains and winelands to white sand and blue seas.  Near the southern tip of Africa lies Cape Town, a great and beautiful city. As a visitor to Cape Town you will be pleased to feel a relaxed and accepting atmosphere that will put you at ease. Towering over Cape Town is the 1073m tall Table Mountain. You can take a cable car ride to the top or walk if you wish. When you reach the summit, there are some lovely scenic walks to enjoy, especially in springtime, as there are many varieties of wildflowers in bloom.

Sunbaking is a popular activity on any one of Cape Town's spectacular beaches such as, Hout Bay. Another especially enjoyable activity is a visit to the tantalising vineyards of Stellenbosch. Stellenbosch is a university town with a
youthful nightlife.

Travel to Hermanus where you can view the whales (seasonal - from July to November/December). Hermanus is a popular seaside resort with lots of short hikes along the coast line. Drive east of Hermanus to Swellendam on your way to the Garden Route. Travellers to this area can explore a varied countryside from rolling wheat fields to the Breede River Valley. The Garden Route is an extensively developed section of beautiful coastline with spectacular beaches surrounded by sand dunes, lagoons, and forests. Mossel Bay is known by many as the start or end of the Garden Route, depending on which way you are travelling.

From Mossel Bay you can travel via George over the pass to Oudtshoorn which is very well-known for its ostrich farms, Cango Caves, cheetah and crocodile farms. A must is a bicycle ride down one of South Africa's most spectacular passes - Swartberg Pass.

Knysna is situated on a lagoon and is extremely popular and jampacked with visitors and tourists. There's loads to do in Knysna from eating oysters at one of the many restaurants, to hiking, horse-riding and a multitude of water sports. If you continue east of Knysna along a beautiful stretch of coastline you will arrive at Plettenberg Bay. This is a very fashionable area which offers nature walks, canoeing and bike trails.
