South Africa - When to go

South African seasons are the opposite of the northern hemisphere - summer starts in December, autumn in March, winter in June and spring in September.

Summer can be extremely hot but the good thing is there are plenty of great beaches or you could head to the highlands were the weather is cooler during winter and pleasantly warm in summer.

Cape Town and the southernmost parts of Western Cape has a Mediterranean-type climates, with warm to hot summers and rainy winters.

Durban and the KwaZulu-Natal coast enjoys a sub-tropical climate with plenty of sunshine year-round.  Summers be hot, thundery and humid.
