Costa Rica - Getting Around Costa Rica

Costa Rica has 2 major airports in San Jose and newly upgraded in Liberia.  If you're travelling from the USA it is also possible to cross Mexioc, Gutemala,, Honduras and Nicaragua by land through public transport or hire vehicles.  There are also 2 domestic airports, Sansa and NatureAir, though the seats get quickly filled up so book in advance!

The best and cheapest way to travel around Costa Rica is by public transport.  Another popular option is to rent a car.

About 2 hours away from Monteverde and 30 minutes away from La Fortuna is Arenal National Park.  Its biggest attraction is a volcano, which is active at night or in the early morning.  You can even windsurf on the Arenal lagoon under the imposing shadow of the volcano.  Manuel Antonio National Park is a very popular tourist spot.  Stunning white beaches, coral reefs, lush rainforrests, wildlife galore and bird sanctuaries.  You'll be guaranteed to meet some friendly monkeys, sloths, coatimundis & scarlet macaws.
